Description:

Position Summary: The Weld Engineer I reviews code requirements and customer specifications to convey fabrication and welding job requirements to Manufacturing. The Weld Engineer I collaborates with QA Engineers to ensure quality and fabrication requirements align. Weld Engineer I will manage multiple jobs and priorities, to ensure timely completion of planning activities for commercial engineered to order products.

Key Results Areas by level of work:

1. Utilization of programs and personnel to supply project documentation as required

a. Working from drawings, specifications, manuals, codes, etc., develops appropriate welding documentation to ensure compliance to Code, Contractual, and Jurisdictional requirements as required.

b. Investigates special welding instructions to conform to Quality Assurance requirements.

c. Consistently meets customer’s quality requirements and expectations.

d. Identifies welding requirements and new welding requirements as required.

e. Facilitates weld procedure development and determines required testing.

f. Writes program procedures and addenda as required to meet order requirements

2. Follow instructions – oral and/or written

a. Populate weld maps as required.

b. Communicates with shop staff, QA/QC inspectors and engineering staff on a daily basis concerning activity requirements.

c. Participates in non conformance reviews, corrective actions and continuous improvement.

d. Participates in customer meetings.

3. Safety & housekeeping

a. Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.

b. Practices safety at all times while at work.

c. Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant.

d. Wears all safety equipment for area of work.

4. Continual Improvement suggestions

a. Keeps an open mind to others continuous improvement suggestions

b. Bring continuous improvement suggestions to the appropriate team member.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.

Education and Training

Bachelor’s Degree in Weld Engineering or related field
Associate’s Degree in Weld Engineering or related field plus 2 years’ experience

Experience:

5+ years of on the job experience in lieu of formal education.

Skills:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

1. Must have proficiency in MS office applications including spreadsheet, enterprise resource planning, database, and specialized application software.

2. Ability and willingness to abide by set policies and/or safety programs established by GHM, our clients, and/or regulatory agencies which govern our performance and behavior in the normal course of our work while on GHM or the client’s property or job site.

3. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
