Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
Bayview Asset Management is seeking to hire an experienced investment professional to serve as an Associate, Residential Whole Mortgage Portfolio Management to support its newly established Insurance Asset Management business. Partnering with senior business and investment leaders across Bayview, the successful candidate will be a critical component of developing and scaling Bayview’s footprint with insurance clients.
The incoming Associate will leverage their deep knowledge of residential mortgage products, market trends, and risk management strategies to understand and achieve client objectives. You will play a pivotal role in evaluating loan portfolios, identifying profitable trading opportunities, negotiating transactions, and providing strategic recommendations to optimize portfolio performance. You will collaborate closely with portfolio managers, traders, and other stakeholders to support investment decision-making processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Analyze market trends, interest rates, and housing data to identify potential opportunities for insurance strategies across products including Agency, Non-Agency, 2nd liens and other mortgage products.
- Evaluate bulk and flow mortgage loan opportunities to assess fit with client and fund guidelines and help determine optimal pricing to achieve portfolio goals.
- Work directly with existing and prospective insurance company clients to understand investment objectives and risk appetite.
- Develop and implement insurance-specific strategic and tactical asset allocations, utilizing Bayview investment products and market positioning within the Residential Whole Loan space to effectively match investment opportunities with client objectives.
- Identify opportunities to optimize loan acquisition and investment strategies to fit client guidelines and maximize overall yield or investment returns.
- Monitor and perform monthly surveillance of assets in the portfolio and assess portfolio performance relative to expectations.
- Identify, develop, and cultivate relationships with internal teams in order ensure coordination across the platform and provide strong investment solutions for client and fund portfolios.
- Collaborate with senior-level investment and company leadership to develop and execute strategic priorities for key relationships, as well as the overall Insurance Asset Management business.
- Generate and manage reporting functions for the group in monitoring trading activities, adherence to client guidelines, and portfolio investment planning.
- Respond to various ad hoc requests from members of the team.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of residential mortgage products (e.g. Agency, non-QM, Prime Jumbo and others) and their credit, duration and convexity risks
- Solid understanding of Agency mortgage products including concepts of option-adjusted spreads and, specified pool pay-ups.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, financial software, and loan trading platforms.
- Proficient in financial modeling, loan valuation, and risk assessment techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders; strong executive presence and presentation skills.
- High attention-to-detail, time management, and organizational skills.
- An entrepreneurial spirit.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Strong analytical skills; extensive working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to collaborate and thrive in a team environment; desire to contribute to team management and development as the business scales.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in residential whole loan trading, mortgage banking, or secondary market operations showcasing progressive responsibilities and leadership abilities.
COMPENSATION AND LOCATION:
- This is an onsite role and will be based in Bayview’s New York, NY and Morristown, NJ office.
- Base compensation is expected to be $175-225k with the opportunity for incentive compensation including bonus and deferred compensation.
