The U.S. Center for SafeSport is a non-profit organization focused on ending all forms of abuse in sport. We endeavor to make athlete well-being the centerpiece of the nation’s sports culture through abuse prevention, education, and accountability.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a full-time Data Engineer to join the Technology department. This position will help build a reliable data infrastructure to support the surfacing of insights related to sexual, emotional and physical abuse within sport, and efforts to further the Center’s mission and support positive social change, working closely with the Research, Evaluation, and Data team. The Data Engineer will collaborate with users to design, code, test, debug, and deploy databases and pipelines that meet requirements and organizational needs. They will also write queries, store procedures and functions for data architecture development. Evaluate and monitor databases' performance, scalability, and security and modify procedures to optimize database designs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Build SafeSport’s internal data infrastructure and architecture design.
- Plan, design, develop and manage the Center’s database to ensure efficient data storage, access, and security.
- Work with data team and vendors to gain a clear understanding of current data infrastructure, audit current infrastructure, and recommend prioritized solutions/optimizations as needed.
- Enable self-serviceability and other efficiencies throughout usage of data.
- Develop and maintain KPIs, scheduled reports, dashboards, and reporting for data integrity.
- Effectively tailor and deliver data insights to a variety of audiences.
- Support federal grant reporting.
- Redesign the Center’s data models optimally and create requisite ERDs and data dictionaries to assist in usability of tables.
- Maintain and improve upon data validation steps within data pipeline, including documentation to help visualize data pipeline.
- Collaborate closely with data team to efficiently pipe in data needed to build dashboards.
- Support automation of large portions of quarterly reporting.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years applied work experience in the field of data engineering and analysis; or bachelor's degree in related area of study + 2 years applied experience.
- 4+ years' experience with front end UI development
- Python, C#, and Java Programming Languages
- Experience working in AWS Environments, with R & Jupiter Notebook, Looker.
- Experience working with and improving complex data systems.
- Experience working with data scientists and analysts to understand data reporting needs.
- Expert level knowledge of SQL Knows how to create a highly validated data reporting schema
- Knows how to build out data dashboards and/or how to use dashboards to pull and manage data
- Understand the importance of working with a multitude of stakeholders.
- Leveraged industry-standard tools, including:
- R or SPSS, Excel, or other quantitative analysis programs
- BI/Visual Analytics: Looker (preferred), Tableau, Atlas, or similar.
- AWS, Athena and Snowflake
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Understanding of participatory and values-oriented evaluation work
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive data; data related to minors and or sexual abuse/domestic violence survivors is preferred
- Experience training or supporting data capacity development
- Master's or PhD in related field

WORK LOCATION – Denver, CO; hybrid schedule possible
This is a full-time, exempt position. The starting annual salary range for this position is $92,000 - $101,000 and will be commensurate with background and experience.
