Job Description
We are seeking a talented materials engineer or scientist to join our research & development team reporting to the Vice President of R&D.
The ideal candidate is a blend of hands-on laboratory experimentalist who has an interest an interest in research and development towards new metallurgical products. Starting with our advanced toolkit for alloy design, you will leverage atomic simulation tools to predict the most favorable alloy combinations. Once identified, you will partner with team chemists to test and evaluate new electroplating processes and chemistries to meet the toughest engineering applications. You will also play a pivotal role, along side metallurgists and chemists for materials characterization and performance assessment of the new nanostructured alloys. The ideal candidate has an ownership role in laboratory management and maintenance for existing equipment and instruments as well as specifying new equipment needed to meet overall technology goals.
Experience working in an industrial laboratory environment is preferred. Previous experience working with materials characterization, chemistry and electroplating is a highly desirable. The best candidate is organized, self-motivated, and action oriented, with the ability to adapt quickly to new challenges and opportunities.
Job responsibilities for the position will include:

Computer simulation of materials design using the proprietary XTALIC toolkit.

Materials characterization of plated samples including: SEM, EDS, XRD, XRF, hardness, tribology, color, surface roughness, optical microscopy.

Hands on electroplating work, testing chemistries and evaluating results in collaboration with Senior Scientists and Chemists.

Routine maintenance of laboratory systems such as glove boxes, vacuum systems, characterization equipment or plating systems.

Weekly reviews of results and work plans in a collegial team environment.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:

Minimum BS in materials science/engineering or related field (E.g., mechanical, chemical)

Previous laboratory experience strongly preferred, especially with materials characterization tools

Mechanical aptitude for designing, specifying and maintaining laboratory equipment for new process development.
