New Opportunity!! Engineering Project Manager
NES Fircroft is actively seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer in the Project Management space for our client's robust mineral mining and processing site in Spruce Pine, NC!! This position would be a full-time long term contract opportunity and would be responsible for the effective coordination of CAPEX projects at our client's site including engingeering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

Position Summary The Project Manager will be responsible to effectively deliver, coordinate, and report on all aspect of project management in the delivery of a collection of project scopes at their assigned site location. They will be responsible to ensure that projects are executed safely, on time, to budget, in accordance with project and quality objectives and includes the management of all stages of project delivery including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and other required activities,
Responsibilities Manage/coordinate the planning, procurement, execution and closure/handover of a CAPEX project, including;
- Prepare, monitor and update cost and time estimation
- Coordinate project activities and delegate tasks to dedicated functions (e.g. procurement, HS, Sustainability)
- Be accountable for project risk management to ensure that project risks are identified, assessed, prioritized and mitigated
- Provide monthly project status reports using endorsed tools and templates to alert management of any deviation from the approved project scope
- Plan human resource needs for assigned CAPEX projects in accordance with the selected Project Delivery Model
- Lead, coordinate and motivate the project team members in the project work throughout the project lifecycle
- Manage internal and external stakeholder relations and expectations
- Ensure system identification for pre-commissioning and commissioning
- In coordination with construction team, Develop detailed construction management plan and resource-loaded construction schedule to enable an optimum commissioning and turnover sequence
- Define construction work areas, develop and sequence construction and field installation work packages
- Based on the construction schedule and packages, confirm Required At Site dates for critical long lead and major tagged equipment and material for interconnected engineering and procurement work package development
- Coordinate engineering through detailed design, after handover from project development team.
- Provide early construction input to plant and equipment layout, path of construction, construction strategy, and contracting approach
- Participate in engineering design and risk reviews to ensure that safety, constructability, operability and maintainability are integrated into detail designs and execution planning
- Coordinate with engineering team to ensure projects incorporate engineering and best practices
- Determine appropriate project team structure and size, and secure required resources by communicating with the Area Project Manager, and Director Major Projects, other departments and external resources where appropriate
- Provide input into general contractor selection
- Develop contractor resource plan, ramp-up and ramp-down of construction resources, including weekend work and night shift
- Direct engagement and management of onsite contractors and subcontractors
- Align scopes of work to baseline WBS,
- Prepare project execution plans, contract management plans
- Deliver scopes of works on time and within budget through accurately interpreting contractual requirements, coordinating the project, ensuring works performed are in accordance with technical drawings and specifications, and maintaining operational lines of communication with all relevant stakeholders
- Manage deviations to project scope, cost, schedule or technical specifications and escalate high risk issues to the Director Major Projects
- Monitor construction activities by regular surveillance, inspection and formal planned audits to ensure quality of designs and installed works, and implement correction action and remedial plans in timely manner
- Track construction quantity trends and productivity in connection with Project Controls group
- Manage changes, variations and site instructions
- Provide regular cost and schedule forecast to Project Controls group, Area Manager, and Director Projects
- Liaise with commissioning teams to prepare pre-commissioning and commissioning work packages for handover for completion, complete with performance testing and inspection packages, resource and material requirements, and detailed work plan
- Coordinate engineering and Original Equipment Manufacturer any start-up support
- Prepare punchlists, remedy required punch items, and complete Turnover of Care, Custody and Control to operations
- Maintain as-built data and documentation records for electronic backdrafting and archiving via document control team.
Qualifications - Experience in mining and/or chemical processing facilities
- Requires five (5) years of project-related experience. A combination of education and directly related experience equal to five (5) years,
- Bachelor's Degree in applicable Engineering field
- Project-related experience in the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction industry.
- Working knowledge of engineering, procurement and construction documentation and nomenclature,
- Project management training/certification an asset.
- English - proficient verbal & writing
