JOB SUMMARY: The ATC Controls Project Engineer and Estimation Specialist will be responsible for programming, configuration, and graphics for projects assigned by ATC Supervisor and/or Project Manager. This person shall assist in the project engineering for the submittal process, including site review, creating engineering submittals, and preparing project commissioning documentation compliant to project contract documents. This position also includes maintaining on-going project as-built documentation and archival of project user files. Shall provide assistance in Bidding/Estimates. This shall include plan and spec take offs for compliance with project requirements. Meeting with Customers on negotiated projects to help deliver control solutions. All bids/ Proposals shall be reviewed by the Department manager for compliance with company guidelines. The Programmer/Project Engineer shall also provide support to the Project Management, Service, & Special Projects departments for advanced technical issues as they arise on various projects. This will include an array of items related to the HVAC and Controls fields.
REPORTS TO: ATC Supervisor, ATC Manager, Department Director
REQUIREMENTS:
- Tridium N4 certified.
- 2-5 years minimum experience as an HVAC programmer
- Able to work Monday-Friday with occasional overtime during afternoons, evenings and weekends as needed. Hours may involve start times as early as 5:00 a.m.
- Must be able to obtain a minimum-security clearance and pass a background investigation.
- Insurable MVR required; able to drive company van or truck and maintain vehicle in accordance with company policies.
- The ability to work independently and interface directly with customers.
- Will provide and maintain personal tools to meet the needs of the position, to include basic screw drivers, pliers, adjustable wrenches, and digital multimeters (VAC, VDC, A, mA, R), etc.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, including ability to resolve conflict professionally with the assistance of management.
- Communicate effectively in English (aural, verbal, and written).
- Skills with Microsoft Office products, including – but not limited to – Outlook, Excel, Word and Visio.
- Willingness to learn and develop skills in controls applications, controls engineering, and programming,
- Working/developing knowledge of HVAC systems, gas distribution systems, and commercial refrigeration.
- Working/developing knowledge of design of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional facilities.
- Working/developing knowledge of building and energy codes as well as energy and commissioning standards.
- Must be able to walk, stand, bend, climb, crawl, stoop; able to be exposed to heights as well as tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc.) Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ATC PROJECTS
- Create and/or assist in creating ATC submittals per contract documents for projects. Select control products, components, applications, and systems
- To work as a technical liaison to provide support of the project for installation team to our PM, field technicians, and subcontractors
- Coordination for equipment locations and interconnecting communication bus.
- Technical overview of installation to ensure that submittal and contract documents are being met.
- To create configuration programming per specified sequence of operation to ensure proper system operation per sequence of operations for the following manufacturers: ASI, ABB, Tridium N4 Jace
- To create custom user graphics inlaid with appropriate points for HMI, front ends, dashboards, and digital signage.
- Assist with project commissioning with proper commissioning sheets and system documentation per the company procedures and standards with minimal supervision.
- Performs on-site testing of the application programming to ensure the sequences of operation function per specifications and checks on-line operation of the graphical user interface to ensure proper graphical representations are used and the dynamic variables are displaying correct values.
- Completes each assigned project focusing on customer satisfaction and specification compliance while trying to maintain budgetary guidelines as defined first by the estimate and then the re-estimate.
- Work in a time & material conscious manner to maintain budgets for ATC Projects.
- Create and refine reusable, field-tested standards/review and revise systems for submission to the standards library/coordinate with estimators and management to maintain the standard library’s integrity.
- Conduct site inspection for preparation of design and submittal drawings for control system installation.
- Provide sequence of operations, device schedules, and as built panel layouts.
- Spec control system components
- Coordinate with Controls Technicians to support third party commissioning as needed.
- Visit work site, as needed, must be familiar with jobsite conditions.
- Troubleshooting BMS problems
- The ATC Programmer/Engineer will coordinate their activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
- Coordinate with in-house installation teams.
- Assist with Hardware/Software calibration as required.
- Assist in providing onsite customer training.
- Attend job site meetings as necessary.
- Provide and maintain project documentation for development of “As-Built” drawing.
PROJECT DOCUMENTARIES
- Document discrepancies in contract documents that are not compliant with design intent and generate RFI’s for EOR comments.
- Maintains a copy of the up-to-date user files and when the project commissioning is completed, archives the latest copy on the company server per company procedures.
- Maintains written documentation on all project issues that could result in change orders, cost impact items, equipment damage, safety infractions, incomplete system functions and exceptions to the contract documents. Identifies such issues on a timely basis and communicates promptly to the Project Manager/Project Engineer. Properly identifies change order circumstances and relays to the Project Manager/ATC Supervisor.
- Submits completed time and expense sheets in a timely manner to the Project Manager/ATC Supervisor in accordance with company policy/procedure.
Estimates:
- Assist in Estimates and Bidding projects as time allows.
- Perform equipment take off’s and setting up initial bid documentation.
- Coordinate Sub-Contractors bids.
- Establish Materials and labor requirements for projects bids.
- Communicate with department manager to review bidding options.
