Flyspace Productions is a full-service, woman owned event management and creative company with in house production and operations services. We produce dozens of events every year ranging from city-wide festivals to private parties and support hundreds more through our AV production rental house. We are seeking a Director of Production to join our team, reporting to the Principals, and responsible for the oversight of the Production Department as a company leader.
The Director of Production is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of live event production, AV rentals, and technical execution. This role ensures seamless event delivery, manages production teams, and optimizes operational efficiency while upholding high standards of quality and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, technical expertise, and financial acumen to drive departmental success and business growth.
This person will be primarily running a department, and not operating as a day-to-day technician or operator with project responsibilities. While having a background in AV or Production is important in being successful in this role, this is not a technician or production manager position, but a business leadership role. This is a full time, exempt position with a salary range of $75,000 up to $95,000 and commensurate with experience and leadership expertise, and eligible for benefits including unlimited PTO, healthcare, 401(k), and more.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute departmental strategies that align with the company's long-term objectives
- Create and manage annual departmental budgets, resource plans, and performance metrics
- Collaborate with leadership team to ensure cross-departmental alignment on strategic initiatives, monitor industry trends, and inform strategic decisions and growth opportunities
- Manage departmental staff, fostering leadership capabilities and professional growth, and ensure a strong bench of developing team members for growth into future roles with training plan
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide actionable feedback for improvement to promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
- Oversee departmental operations to ensure efficiency, productivity, and compliance with company standards
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational workflows, coordinating with across the company to streamline resource allocation and optimize output
- Analyze and report on financial and operational performance data to identify areas for improvement and cost savings
- Act as a representative for the department in client and stakeholder interactions
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and vendors, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business
- Collaborate with external partners to secure resources and negotiate favorable agreements
- Serve as the escalation point for client issues, resolving concerns promptly and professionally
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 10 years in departmental or organizational leadership roles with a proven ability to develop strategies, lead teams, and drive measurable outcomes.
- Advanced education, such as a Bachelor's Degree in a related field, and industry certifications such as PMP, CSEP, etc preferred but not required
- Expertise in cross-functional collaboration, financial management, and operational efficiency is essential
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring leaders and scaling departmental functions is required
- Analytical ability to aggregate and analyze information to determine necessary actions or adjustments
- Strong technical expertise in audio, video, lighting, staging, and/or rigging
- Proven experience managing large-scale events, corporate productions, concerts, or festivals
- Strong leadership and team management experience, with the ability to motivate and develop staff
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Proficiency in event production software (Vectorworks, CAD, or similar) and inventory management systems
- Strong network within the AV production and events industry
- Compatible DiSC profile or similar evaluation matching company culture
