The Computing and Information Technology Directorate works to re-imagine how digital technologies can simplify the research experience, enable data-driven insights for decision makers, and accelerate PNNL’s research missions. CIT helps connect staff to systems while enabling a broader research computing ecosystem to improve productivity and provide a sense of community.
The Computing and Information Technology Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is dedicated to transforming the research experience through innovative digital technologies. This position plays a crucial role in simplifying the research process, enabling data-driven insights for decision-makers, and accelerating PNNL's research missions. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing data collection mechanisms that utilize PowerShell, SQL, and REST APIs to gather cybersecurity data from various sources. This role requires a strong focus on processing and transforming the collected data using Python and Java, developing robust scripts and applications to prepare the data for analysis. In addition to data collection, the candidate will architect and manage data storage solutions, leveraging Splunk for real-time data analysis and a backend database for long-term storage. The role involves creating and optimizing high-performance queries and dashboards in Splunk to deliver actionable cybersecurity insights. The candidate will also develop and maintain ETL pipelines to ensure seamless data flow and integration between collection, processing, and storage systems. Furthermore, the position includes implementing and managing identity and access management (IAM) solutions to ensure secure and appropriate access to data and systems. The successful candidate will oversee vulnerability management processes, utilizing collected data to identify, assess, and mitigate security risks. Collaboration with cybersecurity teams is essential to refine data requirements and develop solutions that enhance threat detection and response. Responsibilities:

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-

MS/MA -OR-

PhD
Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Experience designing and managing large-scale and high-performance ETL pipelines, cloud infrastructure, deploying analytics/machine learning applications, and/or building enterprise dashboards.

Experience with a variety of data platforms such as Splunk, SQL databases, REST APIs, cloud data services.

Software development/scripting experience (e.g., Python, PowerShell, SQL, Java).

Supporting CI/CD pipelines.

Collaborating/supporting Data Scientists/Analysts, Machine Learning Engineers, and/or Software Engineers.

Strong peer leadership, interpersonal, collaborative, and customer relationship skills.

Experience with cloud infrastructure and services.

Familiarity with machine learning applications and analytics deployment.

Experience in a research environment or with government contracts.

Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
