Position Summary
The Data Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the ingestion, storage, processing, analysis, and visualization of healthcare data, including HL7v2, FHIR, and DICOM, on the AWS Cloud Platform. This role encompasses data migrations and transformation initiatives. The Data Engineer will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design large-scale data processing systems, develop scalable data pipelines, and troubleshoot platform-related challenges.
Position Responsibilities:
- Leverage business knowledge and technical expertise to design, develop, and implement data pipelines, databases, data warehouses, data marts, interfaces, custom programs, complex reports, analytical solutions, and web-based applications.
- Develop database architectures for extensive research datasets.
- Generate datasets for essential and highly intricate reports and analytics across diverse subject areas.
- Responsible for expanding and optimizing data and data pipelines.
- Responsible for producing exemplary quality & scalable code and delivering features on-time.
- Design for operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions
- Follow development cycle procedures to maintain code base and build artifacts.
- Create and maintain technical documentation.
- Understand business needs and translate into data solutions for departments and the enterprise.
- Protect assets and the integrity, security and privacy of information entrusted to or maintained by the organization.

Experience and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline required.
- AWS Data Engineer, AWS Developer or AWS Big Data Specialty certification preferred
- At least 2 years of experience in big data and data processing, with a preference for healthcare, pharmacy, and claims data.
- Advanced skill in the principles of data management including logical and physical data modeling, relational database design, and design and development of system-wide metadata
- Ability to take a problem, requirement, or strategy; research solutions and take from concept to implementation for desired outcomes
- Understanding of API ecosystems and experiences with designing, developing, and deploying RESTful API.
- Expertise in several of the following: Python, R, SQL, git, and Spark in a distributed Unix environment, AWS
- Ability to design and implement complex data management systems
- Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases and file format
- Experience with HL7 is preferred
- Understands Kafka/Rabbit MQ
- Experience with message queuing, stream processing is a plus
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes
- Development experience with MySQL, Redshift, MSSQL Server, Mongo DB, PostgreSQL
- Strong industry experience in programming languages such as Python or Java, with the ability to pick up new languages and technologies quickly; understanding of cloud and distributed systems principles and experience with large-scale, big data method
- Experience with Agile development and Scrum.
Expectations:
- Hours are generally Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. As operational deliverable deadlines emerge there will likely be extended working hours.
- Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Light work requiring exertion up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
