Position Title : Plastic Extrusion Process Engineer
Department : Production Position Type : Full-time
Office Location : Northborough, MA
This job works mainly with single screw extruders for extruding fiber and coated wire but also works with other manufacturing equipment that requires an understanding of mechanical principles. Unfortunately experience with compounding, 3D printing or R&D lab work is not applicable. The position works on the production floor troubleshooting problems with equipment, processes and working with production staff. It is not in an office environment. The applicant must show hands on production experience with application of engineering skills.

Objective of the Position :
The Plastic Extrusion Process Engineer is hands on manufacturing, responsible for troubleshooting the extrusion process to ensure results meet Customer specifications and lead times. The position is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving plastic extrusion processing issues through researching plastic resin properties and modifying and testing the plastic extrusion process to get the desired result. The position works with maintenance, quality and the machine operators and requires hands on operation of extrusion lines. The position is also responsible for, and must have experience with, tooling design. This position reports to the business owner.

Essential Functions :
- Responsible for resolving extrusion manufacturing issues to meet production deadlines
- Design and select tooling and dies
- Optimize extrusion processes through researching / understanding material properties and choosing the proper equipment and machine tooling for the product
- Mechanical aptitude to understand aspects of the process to troubleshoot and solve processing issues
- Read and follow product specification and document work procedures to establish appropriate tooling, extruder settings and equipment setup
- Provide guidance to operators to enable them to independently troubleshoot
- Work with Maintenance and Engineering to implement continuous improvement, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and improve line performance
- Perform updates and creation of new recipes for laser gauging equipment
- Requires critical thinking and problem solving as well as ability to troubleshoot independently
- Ensure jobs start and run on time to meet production schedule
- Participation in general housekeeping of extrusion line and production areas keeping plant cleaned, organized, safe and items put away correctly in proper locations.
- Requires ability to self-manage, organize and prioritize
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Must have on the job plastic extrusion experience showing a proven track record managing the extrusion for monofilaments and wire and cable processing
Experience with fluoropolymers
Self-motivated with attention to detail
Proven track record for critical thinking and problem-solving
Able to communicate, work as a team and pitch in where needed
Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand on your feet for length of shift.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
