Jan Metals is currently seeking an Entry Level Engineer. This is a full time position in the Engineering Department. Position involves product preparation, entry of bills of material and layout and design. Jan Metals is located in Schaumburg, IL. The successful candidate must be solid in the use of computer drafting program Solidworks, experience a plus in Word and Excel, good math and communication skill. Will train right applicant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze product concepts supplied by customer and provide design support and/or feedback to help make product manufacturable.
- Analyze new components, materials and technologies to evaluate functionality for all new product development.
- Work with supply chain team on sourcing components, tooling, and materials for new products in development.
- Analyze product cost and prepare schedule plans for effective implementation of projects.
- Uses engineering, analytical, and technical skills to design products to meet requirements.
- Develops and utilizes test methods and plans to evaluate product characteristics and performance.
- Creates, revises, and collaborates on project documents, protocols, drawings, and documentation to applicable internal and external standards.
- Collaborates with manufacturing team to transfer designs, develop manufacturing processes and documentation, and begin production.
- Develops project objectives by reviewing sale orders, customer’s specifications and project proposals; conferring with sales and management.
- Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
- Entry of computerized Bill of Materials.
- Complete the proper elements of the design identifying the bill of material structure, part number assignment, and change control.
- Document any technical design intent as needed and lead team design reviews for designs you are responsible for.
- Research and analyze design proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and manufacturing requirements of designs
- Provide design and engineering assistance for proposed product changes for performance, production improvements, cost reductions, replacement of obsolete parts, or changing manufacturing methods
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
- Experience in SolidWorks is required
- Knowledge of sheet metal, plastic & metal machining, and molded part design
- Knowledge of basic principles, theories, and concepts
- Possesses strong verbal and written communications skills

Pay: $63,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
