Location: Remote within the United States Travel Required: 50% to 60% General Purpose: The Lean Implementation Specialist is responsible for the leadership, management, development, planning, execution/performance, daily operation, and overall benefit of the implementation of lean standards for the delivery, preparation, installation, and commissioning phases of construction projects. The Lean Implementation Specialist effectively coordinates relationships with the Vestas teams on site and the customer hired EPC contractor performing the WTG installation scope to ensure that current Lean methodologies are utilized effectively during the turbine installation activities. Liaising with the CM (Construction Management) team on site and relevant members of VPS (Vestas Power Solutions) and PEX (process excellence) groups, the Specialist will drive cost out initiatives and record improvement workshops for review and implementation.
In close cooperation with the Project Manager, the Construction Manager, and the customer hired EPC contractor, the Lean Implementation Specialist will locate and utilize resources in an efficient manner while maintaining a co-operative, motivated and effective team, and will ensure compliance to the site reporting requirements both contractually and internally.
Responsibilities: - Implement the continuously developing Lean initiatives on the portfolio of construction projects in order to realize the most efficient installations of Vestas wind turbine generators.
- Manage and lead the Leaning out of the delivery, preparation, installation, MCC and commissioning phase of turbine installations.
- Ensure that proper communications are maintained between the Vestas and Customer EPC teams leading into the project execution phase.
- Manage the budget within Commissioning scope, in coordination with the Project Manager
- Ensure compliance to the contract within each scope interface.
- Provide input to the contract as required based on lessons learned on a continuous basis.
- Maintain and follow KPIs set by Manager.
- Planning, management, and deployment of Lean ideology through each phase of the project.
- Ensure adequate training of installation and commissioning personnel
- Proactively resolve internal and external cross-functional issues to ensure the project is not affected
- Notification of incidents and accidents according to HSE procedures
- Ensure that all WTGs are completed and ready to enter the testing phase and subsequently ready for handover to the Customer and Vestas Service department
- Reporting of observations, incidents and accidents according to procedures
Essential Functions : - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), internet research and SAP
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to possess a driver's license.
- Ability to travel to various construction sites
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to work in temperature extremes
- Regular and reliable attendance
Education, Training, and Skills Required: - Minimum 10 years Lean implementation and ideology in construction, energy, industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Six Sigma- green or black belt certified, PMI Lean certified.
- Preferred: Direct wind industry or offshore energy experience- construction specific.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering, construction, or project management or equivalent
- Technical background, electrical, mechanical, or rotating heavy equipment; knowledge of technical drawings and schematics preferred. Ability to understand and utilize technical language.
- Experience developing and supervising a team of employees to safely carry out work on complex construction projects.
- Skilled familiarity with power generation language and key terminology
- Proven performance in building and developing motivated teams while achieving results through others by coaching, mentoring and target setting
- Professional commercial and contractual understanding and understanding of financial impacts of decisions with respect to project budgets.
- Ability to build and maintain professional customer relationships and effectively negotiate with customers to resolve disputes and promote win-win solutions
- Effective change and conflict management.
- Proven decision-making skills with balanced risk taking
- Function effectively in a time-sensitive setting in environments
- Experience in working effectively with work groups across a global organization
- Highly safety-minded and comfortable working offshore and at heights
- Valid driver's license, passport, and ability to travel as needed to meet business outcomes
