Job Description
As a Chemical Manufacturing Operator with Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions (VWTS), you'll play an important role operating and monitoring sophisticated industrial equipment to control chemical changes and reactions that are vital to making our cutting edge products. Main Responsibilities:
- Wash totes and prepare them for reuse
- The ability to read batch recipes and follow instructions accordingly so that batches are made to the correct quality standard
- Stage and prepare ingredients for blends as needed for production according to batch sheets and formulas. Ensures correct ingredients are used for each batch
- Deliver chemicals into blend tanks in predetermined quantities using automated systems as well some semi-automated /manual systems
- Autonomous maintenance activities; changing of diaphragm pumps, hose cam locks, fittings etc.
- Complete all batch documentation accurately and in a timely manner so as to ensure raw material inventory is properly accounted for
- Complete lab testing to ensure products are formulated to meet quality standards
- Loading and unloading bulk trucks of raw materials while safely using material handling equipment safely (mix tank, scales, meters, pumps, forklifts, etc.)
- Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations to include the issuance of safe work permits (LOTO, hot work, etc.).
- Make necessary adjustments to equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions and quality.
- Monitor recording instruments, flow meters, panel lights, and other indicators, and listen for warning signals, to verify conformity of process conditions.
- Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panel boards, control boards, or automatic equipment. Record operating data such as process conditions and instrument readings.
- Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, and product quality.
- Draw samples of products to be tested in the lab to ensure that quality standards are met.
- Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations or as directed by supervisory personnel.
- Start pumps to wash and rinse reactor vessels, to exhaust gases and vapors, to regulate the flow of oil, steam, air or gas to towers and to add products to converter or blending vessels.
- Inspect and operate Utility Equipment such as towers, boilers, chillers and scrubbers.
- Calculate material requirements or yields according to formulas as directed. Gauge tank levels, using calibrated rods and pressure gauges.
- Autonomous maintenance activities ; changing diaphragm pumps , hose cam locks, fittings etc.
- Complete all batch documentation accurately and in a timely manner so as to ensure raw material inventory is properly accounted for
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Core Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong understanding of WHMIS / GHS
- Analytical ability, capability to troubleshoot and diagnose process systems
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills - Flexible and adaptable to a changing environment
- Sense of ownership and pride in work
- Continuous improvement background, able to identify process improvements and drive them through to completion
- Mechanical skills
- Familiarity with good manufacturing processes, ISO 9001
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to self-motivate and organize priorities to ensure customer and company needs are being met
- Computer proficiency
- Previous experience working with large volumes of chemicals (desired) Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Forklift license an asset, or willing to be trained on forklift
