The role of Controls & Instrument Engineer is to support the Engineering Lead and Product Engineering Manager. They will be accountable for the electrical scope and systems in large scale data centers across the design, construction, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning phases. The Controls & Instrument Engineer will be responsible for checking and approving drawings / designs; interface communication, and ensuring the accuracy, reliability, efficiency, and safety of the electrical scope of work for Hyperscale Data Center Modules meets customer's requirements and Industrial Standards.
The Controls & Instrument will play a critical role with supporting the plant during the manufacturing stage. They will also be assisting various stakeholders in troubleshooting site installation and commissioning problems.
The Engineerwill support the goals and programs established by the management team. These roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Checking and approving drawings, information, and documentation which meets Industrial standards to enable the manufacturing group and other departments to produce Data Center Infrastructure Modules.
- Attend and initiate Design and Development Planning and Review session to meet customer's and industry's need.
- Prepare TRs (Technical Requisitions) for electrical systems, Instrument systems, and various components.
- Review vendor quotations, full technical bid analysis, and provide feedback to procurement team conveying gaps or compliance of proposal to project requirements.
- Prepare and complete various Controls and Instrument engineering deliverable drawings, documents, and calculations such as instrument list/index, instrument data sheets, control system architecture drawings, alarm schedule, select and specify all safety and control instruments, etc.
- Review of the P&ID, IOM Procedure, Start-Up Procedure, and Control and Shutdown Philosophy to ensure Data Center FAT and Operation are issue free.
- Ensure all major equipment buy-outs are properly specified and purchased to interface seamlessly with overall system.
- Prepare control narrative / philosophy.
- Troubleshoot any operation issues during start-up and commissioning of data center as it relates to control systems and instrumentation.
- Perform ladder logic programming (if needed), control valve sizing, relief valve sizing, flow element sizing. Train team members to perform these sizing.
- Recommend control system, control valve, level instruments and flow instruments best suited for application.
- Participate in client or internal HAZOP.

- Assist in providing hookup details to I&E contractor for installation of instrumentations.
- Review and approve subcontractor field instrument and electrical hookup scope, and ensure scope meets client specifications.
- Prepare bulk MTOs (Material Take Offs) and detailed BOMs (Bill of Materials).
- Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs while managing impact to quality, cost, or schedule.

- Stays up to date with advancements in electrical engineering and data center technologies and recommend new technologies to improve the reliability and efficiency of our data center product line.
- Represent company with customers during review meetings. Act as the primary point of contact for clients, responding to their inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to RFIs and addressing any issues that arise.
- Attend job site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as needed.
Minimum Job Qualifications Educational:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering from a recognized university.
- Professional Engineering License (Strongly Preferred)
Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years' experience in controls and instrument design and engineering, with a focus on data center infrastructure.
- Ability to produce drawings/sketches to illustrate design/ideas.
- General knowledge and direct experience with the construction, operation, and maintenance of data center or building electrical systems.
- Experience with high-density data centers and hyperscale environments
- Understands the purpose of control systems for data center facility modules.

- Working knowledge of control valves, relief valves, and flow measurement devices.
- Working knowledge of ISA guidelines and symbols for instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of API and ANSI guidelines.
- Ability to offer alternate instrument or valve type from perspectives of cost, space, schedule, operation, and maintenance.
- Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design within data center driving or affecting electrical scope.
- Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from code and ultimately achieving design approval and permitting.
