Deputy Vessel Operations Manager Location: Aberdeen or Sutton Full time staff position As a Deputy Vessel Operations Manager you will work closely alongside the Vessel Operations Manager, who is the Vessel's single point of contact for project and tendering teams, ensuring continuity of knowledge regarding the vessel's capabilities, performance, cost base and technical library. Throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, the jobholder will support the Vessel Operations manager in maintaining communication and direction between onshore and the assigned vessel.
The role involves contributing to the development of project-specific deliverables during the tender and execution phases of the project to ensure the delivery of a high quality, robust and efficient solution which considers all risks and opportunities as part of the tender process.
There will be travel required to work sites and regional offices as part of this role.
Your Role:
- Enthusiastically pursue, actively demonstrate and foster an exemplary Safety culture and practice onboard the vessels, and where requested, align, sponsor and support all HSEQ related activities
- Effective participation supporting the design, constructability, and HIRA reviews, as well as their implementation
- Work closely with the Vessel Operations Manager in order to develop performance metrics that will support predictable performance of the vessel
- Review HSE performance at worksite, safety observations and interventions in order to prepare a monthly performance report highlighting emerging trends and suggestions for improvement
- Support the Verification of effectiveness process with Synergi Case Management in ensuring correct and well-implemented actions are taken in order to mitigate risk.
- Review the end-of-trip report for areas which can be improved or recognised, and support the closeout activities from the report
- As needed, support the preparation of reporting on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. It may also be necessary for you to present data as part of this process
- Provide vessel information (capability, capacity), best practices, and design guidance
- Provide input into the development of project schedules, including spooling, mobilisation, transit, Maintenance & Repair, and demobilisation
- Engage in technical reviews and contribute to risk and opportunity assessments
- Understand the cost drivers and build-up of the vessel day rate together with POB Project Preparation
- With the Vessel Operations Manager, prepare monthly vessel performance data, including reasoning for variances against the plan and actions taken.
- Maintain the Vessel's Public and Team Operations SharePoint sites and promote their correct use as necessary.
- Support the readiness process to ensure the vessel and project are well-positioned for success
- Assist the Vessel Operations Manager in reviewing the Project logistics plan, including traffic management plans and crew change procedures
- Plan a detailed port-call schedule between subsequent projects and Offshore Resources activities, based on input from the vessel, the projects, and Offshore Resources
- Support the Vessel Operations Manager, or in some cases lead the review of the mobilisation plan, including testing, loading, and setting up of equipment
- Assist the Vessel Operations Manager in liaising with internal partners such as Offshore Resources, Supply Chain Services, and Pipeline Group to ensure the smooth running of the vessel
- Contribute to the planning, sequence of operations, and scheduling durations of vessel operations. Verify changes initiated by the project
- Attend daily conference calls as required, including with Project to ensure regular follow-up on project needs in terms of personnel, equipment, planning, as well as with the vessel to ensure sufficient operational support
Your Background and Experiences: - An operational background in subsea construction vessel operations, pipelaying, and fabrication of rigid pipelines, along with a degree in engineering, is essential.
- Ideally have experience in operations with Pipelay, Heavy / Light Construction, IRM or DSV vessels preferred, although this is not essential
- Good leadership, managerial and organisational skills
- Good stakeholder management skills
- Ideally have knowledge of IMO, Class & Flag and ISM requirements, although this is not essential
