Job Summary:
The Lean (Continuous Improvement) Engineer is the focal program lead that will own and manage continuous improvement projects to completion across all aspects of the manufacturing environment. As a Lean ambassador you will champion new initiatives, execute hands-on projects, conduct teaching and training on lean methodologies, and measure the sustainment of completed projects.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Host, initiate, and execute Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects.
- Optimize manufacturing processes, workflows, and activities that yield meaningful improvement of operational efficiencies, eliminate or reduce waste, and greatly lower costs.
- Develop and drive project plans, action trackers, measurement systems, and execution to events, initiatives and projects.
- Present executive closeout presentations, summarizing key findings, and report success/sustainment through meaningful KPIs and metrics.
- Establish a rolling list of new opportunities and initiatives for improvement.
- Conduct routine GEMBA walks, influencing the implementation and utilization of Lean principles across all aspects of the factory.
- Author tool, templates, and standard work that eases adoption of Lean methods, and fosters the continuous improvement mindset in all employees.
- Train and develop Lean skills and methodologies throughout the workforce.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing technology, or related industrial or technical degree.
- Formally trained through previous employer or third-party consultant on Lean Methodologies and Continuous Improvements tools, processes and best practices.
- Prior experience putting training into practice with a résumé of completed Kaizen and Continuous Improvement projects. Ideally in a contract manufacturing, machine shop environment.
- Strength in waste identification/elimination, GEMBA, value stream mapping, flow lines, process improvement, visual Management, 5S, and standard work.
- Must be "hands-on" with the team and project. This is a "doer" role, and not just a project administrator.
- Strong communication on project status, action items, executive summary and creation of KPIs to measure success and sustainment.
- Keen observation skills, motivator and change agent.
