We are working with an EPC contractor specializing in utility and industrial process infrastructure, including substations, power generation, T&D infrastructure, industrial process facilities, and renewable fuel projects. Our motivated team of in-house experts, construction managers, project managers, engineers, and other professionals manage the execution of engineering, procurement, and construction for various energy projects.
Currently, the company is executing an EPC contract for a large 500kV HVDC substation project and will mobilize to the site imminently. We are seeking an Industrial Building Construction Supervisor for a project in Adelanto, CA, with the initial assignment focusing on the erection of a Converter Station Building. This includes civil, steel, and masonry construction, as well as MEP support systems such as fire protection, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and lighting. This position will be site-based for the project's duration, expected to be completed by 2Q28.
PRIMARY FUNCTION The Building Construction Coordinator provides on-site oversight, coordination, management, and technical expertise for all aspects of the facility building, which will house utility electrical equipment, electrical switchgear, and maintenance and office spaces. They interface daily with the Site Construction Manager, other site discipline supervisors, and the site safety manager to ensure the building construction is executed safely, according to project specifications, schedule, and budget. The buildings are designed by engineers and constructed by a subcontracted general contractor.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Manage the industrial building subcontractor from inception to completion.
- Coordinate the building contractor's work with other site activities.
- Monitor and assess progress of all discipline subcontractors, including civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.
- Work with discipline supervisors and the Site Construction Manager to ensure efficient subcontractor performance, meeting contracting requirements, budgets, schedules, and quality/environmental standards.
- Manage project costs to maintain budgets, document and manage changes to protect stakeholder interests.
- Manage the schedule to achieve project milestones, adjusting as needed.
- Provide periodic progress updates to the Site Construction Manager and Project Manager.
- Direct all subcontractors daily.
- Coordinate with the Site Safety Manager to integrate safety into project plans, enforce safety policies, support safety training, and correct unsafe conditions related to building construction.
- Supervise total building construction to ensure subcontractor productivity and contractual performance.
- Review subcontractor work packages, project plans, and specifications for code compliance.
- Assist subcontractors with project scope development, questions, and problem resolution.
- Coordinate efforts across the project between Owner, project management, engineers, subcontractors, QA/QC, and Safety.
- Regularly evaluate progress against goals and timelines.
- Conduct daily site coordination meetings with subcontractors.
- Ensure adherence to environmental, regulatory, and safety requirements during construction.
- Coordinate with the start-up team during facility start-up, commissioning, and testing.
- Proactively identify potential issues and facilitate solutions.
- Manage the project closeout process to ensure timely completion.
Position Reports to: Site Construction Manager
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE: - At least 5 years of experience managing building trades for large commercial and industrial building construction with leadership responsibilities, preferably in an EPC environment.
- 10 to 15 years of related industrial building trades construction experience with a track record of achievement on large complex projects.
- Preferred background in projects involving high voltage electrical facilities and subsystems.
- Strong knowledge of building construction (civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), craft agreements, jurisdiction, engineering, and safety.
- Experience with project controls, scheduling, and reporting.
- Familiarity with contract and subcontract documents, terms, and conditions.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and management skills.
- General understanding of Building Codes, Mechanical Codes, Electrical Codes, and Plumbing Codes as they relate to building construction.
- Understanding of Building Permits is a plus.
- Demonstrated strong leadership ability.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; fluent in English.
- Legally able to work in the United States for any length of time.
