The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the Information Technology Systems Administrator (ITSA) position. There is one (1) full-time (75 bi-weekly hours) vacancy.
The Telecommunications Division provides multiple levels of service for public safety communications systems. These systems comprise of over 10,000 network elements. There are 35 fire stations, 14 mountaintop sites, 6 dispatch centers, and numerous other locations with facilities maintained by this division. Customer agencies include Marin Emergency Radio Authority (MERA) agency members, Cities/Agencies within Marin County, and all contracts associated with these functions.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Information Technology Systems Administrator (ITSA) works with the Communications Network Systems Analyst to maintain and administer the virtual and physical local and wide area communications network environments, including computer and server hardware, systems software, applications software, security protocols, and development of configurations. The ITSA implements and enforces communications network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware. This includes installing and maintaining local-area networks (LAN), Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), wide-area networks (WAN), and virtual Wide Area Networks (VWAN) associated with the MERA system. The ITSA will provide technical support for complex projects along with system reports and statistics. The ITSA has responsibility for preparing accurate estimates of time and materials required for assigned projects and is expected to read and understand network schematics associated with the projects.
ABOUT YOU
Our Highly Qualified Candidate: The highly qualified candidate will be responsible for understanding and applying disciplined systems engineering processes for entire program life cycle; systems concept of operations, requirements derivation/management, design, unit test, integration, system test, verification, and validation of subsystem and system. The candidate will have related experience in the following areas: WAN & LAN design, implementation, and troubleshooting experience with switching and routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP, BGP, M-BGP, MPLS RSVP-TE, and LDP). Previous knowledge and experience working with Juniper, Aviat, Cisco, Nokia/Alcatel, VMware, Fortinet and experience with Active Directory, network troubleshooting and Cyber Security.
The ideal candidate exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise in their duties and will dig beneath the obvious to get at the facts. The candidate will develop new workflows to support automation and proactively resolves potential problems by anticipating and preparing for these in advance. The candidate will have strong writing skills and experience preparing various correspondences and reports, including statistical reports and project recommendations.
Highly Desired: Possession of at least one of the following valid licenses or certificates: CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+; Cisco CCNA; Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA or similar.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAny four-year combination of recent professional experience and/or relevant computer science coursework that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and abilities. A typical way of achieving these requirements would be graduation with a bachelor's degree from an accredited program in computer science or a related field.
Please note:
Fifteen (15) semester units of computer science coursework from an accredited program and in a discipline relevant to the assignment is equivalent to a full year of related professional experience that has provided the required knowledge and abilities of the role.Required education may be substituted with related professional experience on a year for year basis. Internships completed in conjunction with coursework are excluded from being credited towards work experience if they are counted towards educational requirements.Recent experience is defined as experience gained, in part, in the last five years or longer, if technically relevant.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a background investigation (LiveScan - Department of Justice).
Incumbents must have the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and at odd or irregular hours for extended periods of time in either on-call or emergency conditions. Incumbents must stand 24-hour on-call duty as assigned on a rotating basis to respond to all alerts, alarms, and calls related to County-maintained equipment and systems.
