The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Seton Hall University invites applications for a full-time academic year visiting assistant professor position beginning August 2024. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in teaching of introductory general and/or organic chemistry courses, especially for non-majors and possess the ability and desire to interact and collaborate with members of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and other departments whose students take these courses. Contract faculty ordinarily teach 24 credits per year (12 per semester).

Seton Hall University is located in South Orange, New Jersey, 14 miles from New York City. It is the oldest Catholic diocesan institution of higher education in the United States and is home to about 6,300 undergraduate and 4,700 graduate students. The 15 full-time faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry have interests spanning the entire field and we value high-quality teaching, scholarship and service. Our courses emphasize critical thinking, building scientific knowledge and ability and include the full range of introductory, advanced undergraduate and graduate courses, in an ACS-certified undergraduate program. We are a signer of the Green Chemistry Commitment and are active in the green chemistry community and we are committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
Primary responsibilities include teaching 12 credits of undergraduate courses per semester with emphasis on introductory general and/or organic chemistry. Additional duties include a minimum of three office hours per week and active engagement with faculty and students in daily work.
The initial contract will be for the 2024-2025 academic year, with the possibility of renewal based on strong performance and departmental need.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related discipline that demonstrates knowledge and ability to teach introductory and/or second year college chemistry courses.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated successful college teaching experience beyond the doctorate is a plus.
