We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design and Automation Technician to join our dynamic team. This role involves providing electrical design, development, and programming based on approved P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram) and collaborating with team members and management. The ideal candidate will have solid technical knowledge of automation technologies, sensors, controllers, actuators, and industrial networks. This position requires a blend of independent judgment and teamwork to support the design, programming, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of high-speed centrifuges and automated manufacturing systems and equipment.
Responsibilities / Tasks
- Provide electrical design, development, and programming based on approved P&ID, conferring with team members and management as necessary.
- Support the design, programming, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of high-speed centrifuges and automated manufacturing systems.
- Apply solid technical knowledge of automation technologies, including sensors, controllers, actuators, and industrial networks.
- Utilize problem-solving and troubleshooting skills extensively.
- Gain hands-on training on projects integrating broad knowledge of automated systems.
- Use computer-based and electronically controlled systems in process and manufacturing environments.
- Learn skills necessary to program, assemble, install, troubleshoot, repair, and modify machine instrumentation and controls.
- Measure voltage, current, and resistance for single and three-phase alternating current (AC/DC) sources.
- Apply mathematical calculations pertinent to the maintenance field.
- Understand and apply electrical control panel and machinery safety standards (UL 508A, NEC, NFPA).
- Interpret and modify engineering drawings for electrical control panels and P&ID.
- Install and provide technical support for PLC-based hardware and software.
- Assist in supervising/training in-house technical personnel and customer plant personnel in repairing, overhauling, installing, testing, and inspecting mechanical and electromechanical equipment.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Review reports of production, malfunction, and maintenance to determine or address problems.
- Provide electrical and controls support to customers and GEA personnel, including troubleshooting and hardware/software modifications.
- Maintain and update electrical schematics, engineering drawings for production, and technical documentation for new and existing equipment.
- Work effectively in a team-based environment.
- Demonstrate familiarity with process controls, motor controls, instrumentation, automation principles, and industrial networking.
- Apply knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in machine control systems.
- Exhibit strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Meet deadlines and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Troubleshoot and accomplish minor program changes with PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs.
- Provide on-site customer support and start-up assistance.
Your Profile / Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent in Electro-Mechanical Technology required.
- Microsoft Office Suite knowledge
- Must be willing to travel to customer locations in the U.S. and Canada (approximately 30-50% of the time).
