Job Summary
The Hydraulic Technician (Hydraulic Engineer) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all hydraulic systems and well control equipment on the rig.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs emergency duties as per Station Bill and Emergency Procedures manual.
- Complies with and effectively contributes to the continuous improvement of VMS, Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) related policies and procedures, and relevant authority regulatory requirements.
- Prepares and maintains an outstanding defect list for hydraulic equipment on board and tracks all defects utilizing maintenance system.
- Maintains familiarity with hydraulic machinery and systems under his/her control.
- Monitors performance of hydraulic equipment in operation on a daily basis. Informs Chief Mechanic and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that might affect the operation of the rig or vessel.
- Ensures that maintenance is planned, organized, supervised and executed in accordance with well programs, company requirements and contractual obligations.
- Plans and executes preventive maintenance with a minimum of six weeks overview to cover current hitch and half of back-to-back hitch; maintain an updated and accurate historical record of all maintenance done as well as all equipment certification documents.
- Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned on safety & environmental critical equipment/systems (SECE's) as defined in VAMS.
- For rigs with Performance Standards
- Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned with Assurance Activities required by Performance Standards.
- Maintains an understanding of the relationship between the rigs safety case, identified Major Accident Hazards, the bow tie assessment, Performance Standard (PS) documents, and PS Assurance Activity tasks in VAMS.
- Inspects, services, maintains, tests and repairs well control equipment and all other hydraulic systems.
- Performs all work according to agreed expectations of both internal and external customers, and contributes actively to continual improvement activities.
- Shows active participation in Hazard Management and Stop Work activities.
- Effectively contributes to Management of Change.
- Compiles reports on major equipment failure, equipment performance and maintenance history.
- Completes handover reports, logs, records and notes according to approved procedures and instructions.
- Assigns work to employees and ensures they are competent to fulfil their normal duties.
- Creates work plans for crews and ensures that parts, tools, equipment and documentation are available for scheduled work.
- Maintains computer based maintenance management system.
- Assists electrician and mechanic when required as part of the maintenance team.
- Maintains parts inventory.
- Actively participates in pre-tour, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), pre-job meetings and weekly safety meetings.
- Controls inventory and budget.
- Assists in the mentoring process in accordance with the Mentoring Program, as required.
- Uses the VAMS system to be able to identify equipment identified as Barriers.
- Maintains contact with regulatory agencies as required.
- Implements frontline discipline in consultation with next level supervisor.
- Participates in a leading role in relevant incident investigations.
- Ensures direct reports' roles and responsibilities are clearly discussed, as applicable.
Qualifications / Experience
- Five years offshore experience with increasing supervisory responsibility.
- Fluent English communication skills (both written and oral).
- High School diploma or equivalent.
