SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB's global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.
Description & Scope: You will be part of the multi-disciplinary team developing technologies for geothermal as well as oil and gas well construction and pursuing fundamental research in rock cutting mechanics.
The goal of this internship is to study rock cutting mechanics. Your role will be to work with research scientists to apply an FEA model to simulate rock cutting and compare the numerical results with experimental data. The project could include developing and validating new features for the FEA model.
Deliverables: - Planning and carrying out modelling and experimental work.
- Record & process the data
- Scan test results
- Calculate and compare efficiency
- Simulate the experimental test model in ANSYS
- Internal Report: summarizing the work and findings
- Peer Review: presented to the whole site
Qualifications and Experience: - Studying for a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Similar
- Data processing and analysis (Matlab)
- Finite element modelling (ANSYS or ABAQUS)
- Good communication skills
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Preferred: Emphasis on mechanics of materials/solid mechanics Experience with LS DYNA
