Summary
The Rig Electrician is responsible for maintaining the proper operation of all electrical systems on the drilling rig. This position is shop-based but will involve regular travel to field locations.
Responsibilities
- Work with rig crews to ensure proper training and that electronic safety systems are not bypassed
- Work closely with contract electrical, ensuring company needs are being met
- Guide and instructing non-electrical personnel
- Maintain, sort, and organize electrical parts
- Participate in Precision's safety program
- Participate in on-call and overtime as required
- Various other duties as required
Knowledge & Skills
Energy or oilfield services industry experience is highly desired
Silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) experience an asset
Programmable logic controllers (PLC) and computer networking experience an asset
Experience with alternating current (AC) drive systems is an asset
Canrig Top Drive Experience is required
Lighting, Generator Controls and Motor Controls experience
Knowledge of local electrical codes and standards pertaining to non-hazardous and hazardous areas
Capable of planning and proposing maintenance required and routine repairs budget
Must have a valid vehicle operations license (abstract required)
Exemplary safety record and commitment to safe work practice
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Valid Drivers License is required
Education
A vocational post-secondary graduate of an approved certified electrical red seal journeyman program or equivalent is required.
Electrical Technician certification is considered an asset.
Experience
At least 5 years of experience with the electrical components of rig construction
Familiar with the assembly of drilling rig drive houses
Experience with Electric Motor Controls, VFD interconnects
Full Knowledge of Power Generation, Distribution, and Generator Control Systems
Experience with Microsoft Windows and Associated Office Applications (MS Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, AutoCAD)
Working knowledge of the pertaining API electrical practices relating to land-based drilling rigs
