Summary
The Senior Data Engineer will lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines within our enterprise data lakehouse on Microsoft Fabric. This critical role will be at the forefront of sourcing, transforming, and curating data across the organization to power analytics and insights. The Senior Data Engineer will work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable and scalable data solutions, driving key business decisions.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data engineering, experience with advanced analytics, and a track record of building and optimizing data infrastructure to support business intelligence and machine learning initiatives. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential as the Senior Data Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data strategies, resolve complex technical issues, and mentor junior engineers.

- Develop & Optimize Pipelines: Lead the implementation of data pipelines and processes that create and maintain enterprise medallion data sets in a data Lakehouse architecture.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with data consumers (business and technical teams) to gather requirements for new data sets, ensure data products (dashboards, reports, tools) meet evolving needs, and enhance existing pipelines for better efficiency and performance.
- Troubleshoot & Innovate: Diagnose and resolve ETL issues, while proactively identifying opportunities to improve data pipeline monitoring, reliability, and scalability.
- Data Integration: Support the adoption and integration of golden datasets across applications, driving consistency in data usage throughout the organization.
- Data Quality & Governance: Partner with business users and data stewards to define and implement data cleansing rules and resolve quality issues within ETL pipelines.
- Support Analytics & Dashboards: Collaborate on enterprise-level dashboards in Power BI, ensuring high-quality data visualizations that drive decision-making.
- Custom Solutions: Create and maintain solutions for data capture through tools such as PowerApps, Python-based frameworks (Flask, Fast API), and other custom-built applications.
- Machine Learning & AI: Partner with data science project teams to prepare and engineer data for machine learning and AI initiatives, ensuring data availability and quality.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to junior team members, champion best practices in data engineering, and contribute to the platform roadmap by offering data-driven insights and innovation.
- Travel to Company and subsidiary offices; offsite client, subcontractor, and supplier meetings; and other locations across North America to fulfill the essential duties of the role as required.
- Regular and reliable attendance in person as required by Supervisor, Company guidelines, and/or project and office obligations.

- Ensures client satisfaction, both internally and externally, through efficient handling of issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, Python (or PySpark), data modeling, and ETL frameworks.
- Data Infrastructure Expertise: Proven ability to architect, manage, and optimize data lakehouse environments, preferably within Microsoft Fabric.
- Analytics & Visualization: Experience using tools like Power BI or Tableau for data visualization, and a strong understanding of data-driven decision-making.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to analyze complex data challenges and design innovative, scalable solutions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to work closely with business leaders and technical teams to deliver impactful data solutions.
- Additional Differentiators: Experience with machine learning pipelines, software development practices, and data capture frameworks like PowerApps, Flask, or FastAPI.
- Utilizes Microsoft Office-based applications and project management software systems appropriate for this role.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
