Job description:
The Lucid Materials and Joining team are seeking an adhesives technical specialist to help solve tough problems using a first principles approach. The ideal candidate has experience with various joining solutions, with a particular emphasis on adhesive joining strategies. Experience with expandable polymers suitable for automotive application is preferred. An ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective field(s), to possess the ability to learn quickly, and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
The Role:
- Develop and validate state of the art joining solutions, specializing in adhesives, sealants, and tapes via in-house laboratory testing and supplier management.
- Specify surface preparation and/or pre-treatment and process specifications for various adhesive applications across Lucid's product line.
- Conduct internal validation of materials and manage supplier and/or 3rd party laboratory qualifications.
- Perform root-cause and failure analysis of adhesively bonded joints.
- Write test reports summarizing the background, scope, test methods, results, and conclusions for technical and management staff.
- Author material and process standards for adhesive applications.
- Provide guidance to design engineers enabling Lucid to use state of the art materials and processes.
- Coordinate CAE and physical validation testing
Qualifications:
- Strong fundamental knowledge of polymer science and chemistry with practical application experience in product design and development.
- Knowledge of pre-treatment and adhesive systems for plastic, composites, aluminum, steel, and multi material structures.
- Experience of mechanical joining method are bonus – flow drill, SPR, rivet and welding systems.
- Strong technical writing and reporting skills as well as and experience with specification development
- Hands-on experience with standard material laboratory equipment (tensile testing, FTIR, DSC, rheometer, etc.)
- A self-driven approach to pushing the limits of engineering and a strong drive to develop innovative technologies.
Education:
- BS/MS in Chemical/Materials Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Preferred:
- PhD in Chemical/Materials Engineering.
- Experience with Catia V5/V6 is preferred but not essential.
