ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary:The Technical Director of JHR is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of the car's design, development, and performance. This senior leadership role manages the engineering team, ensuring that the car meets regulatory standards and is optimized for maximum on-track performance. The Technical Director plays a pivotal role in shaping the team's competitive strategy, car performance development, and liaising with suppliers, partners, and governing bodies. The role requires a deep understanding of racing technology, strong leadership skills, and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:• Vehicle Performance Enhancement:o Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of the car, focusing on key performance areas such as aerodynamics, suspension, powertrain integration, and overall vehicle dynamics.
o Works closely with race engineers to understand the drivers' feedback and translate it into engineering solutions that improve car performance.
• Innovation and Engineering Solutions:o Oversee the development of innovative technical solutions to maintain and improve the car's competitive edge while adhering to IndyCar regulations.
o Drive research and development (R&D) initiatives to explore new technologies, materials, and methodologies that can enhance car performance.
• Engineering Team Oversight:o Manage a team of engineers, including race engineers, performance engineers, project engineers, and system engineers, ensuring effective collaboration and communication across departments.
o Set clear objectives for the technical team and provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership to ensure that all projects align with the team's competitive goals.
• Resource Allocation:o Ensure that engineering resources, including personnel, time, and budget, are effectively allocated and managed to meet project timelines and performance targets.
o Evaluate and optimize the team's use of tools, simulation software, and testing equipment to streamline the development process.
• Race Day Operations:o Work closely with race engineers and performance engineers during race weekends to optimize car setup, balance, and strategy based on practice sessions and qualifying results.
o Provide technical support and input during races, offering solutions to real-time issues such as tire wear, aerodynamics, or mechanical failures.
• Data-Driven Adjustments:o Analyze telemetry data and post sessions data from test sessions and races to identify performance trends, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
o Translate data insights into actionable technical changes, such as suspension adjustments, aerodynamic tweaks, or power unit optimization.
• Regulatory Adherence:o Ensure that all technical developments and car components comply with the IndyCar Series' technical regulations and safety standards.
o Stay informed of any rule changes or updates to the technical regulations and incorporate them into the car's preparation and development strategy.
• IndyCar Liaison:o Act as the team's primary technical point of contact with the IndyCar governing body, handling any technical queries, inspections, or issues related to car legality. Working jointly with the Team Manager on IndyCar governing body communications.
o Attend technical briefings and represent the team in discussions or disputes regarding technical matters if applicable.
• Supplier Management:o Oversee technical relationships with key suppliers, ensuring timely delivery and quality of parts such as chassis components and technical systems.
o Work with suppliers to ensure that any components provided align with the team's performance needs and are developed to the highest standards.
• Collaboration with Partners:o Collaborate with the engine manufacturer and technical partners to maximize performance and reliability, ensuring alignment with the team's technical objectives.
o Organize test sessions with the GM Simulator and generic static testing available to the team through our technical partners.
• Budget Control:o Manage the technical department's budget, ensuring that expenditures on development projects, components, and testing align with financial constraints.
o Monitor costs associated with R&D, car updates, and part manufacturing, finding opportunities for cost-saving measures without compromising performance.
o Seek cost-effective yet high-performance solutions that maintain the competitive level of the car within the team's budgetary restrictions.
• R&D Projects:o Oversee research projects that focus on the development of the car and its subassemblies.
o Plan and oversee the development projects such as but not restricted to: 7 post rig and dampers, gearbox efficiency, upright efficiency, differential testing, aerodynamics with wind tunnel testing and CFD
• Track Testing:o Plan and oversee on-track testing sessions, ensuring that they provide valuable data and insights for continuous performance improvement.
o Evaluate the effectiveness of new components or setups and adjust development plans based on test results.
• Performance Analysis:o Regularly review the car's performance throughout the season, benchmarking against competitors and identifying areas where the team can improve.
o Develop long-term performance strategies that encompass technical, aerodynamic, and mechanical improvements, aligning with the team's competitive goals.
• Seasonal Development Planning:o Plan the technical roadmap for each season, outlining key developments, component updates, and engineering milestones to keep the car competitive throughout t
• Performance Metrics:o Car competitiveness and race results.
o Successful delivery of technical upgrades and innovations within budget and on time.
o Compliance with IndyCar regulations and the avoidance of penalties or technical infringements.

Physical Requirements and Body Mechanics:As part of our Indy racing team, this role involves physically demanding tasks that require strength, coordination, and safe body mechanics. Candidates must be able to:
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally heavier loads, utilizing proper lifting techniques to prevent strain or injury.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, and twisting, especially in tight or confined spaces, while maintaining proper posture and body mechanics.
Safely handle tools, equipment, and racing components, ensuring ergonomic handling to minimize risks of musculoskeletal injuries.
Be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, often in varying weather conditions, while adhering to safety protocols related to body positioning and movement. - Proper body mechanics are critical to maintaining the safety and performance of our team. Training in safe lifting techniques and ergonomic practices will be provided to support team members' well-being.
