We are currently seeking a mid-level structural engineering role in the company’s new design structural engineering department in our Chicago regional office on various building projects. This position reports to the senior structural engineer, associate vice president or project principal, an Officer of the Company. This is a career growth opportunity leading to a Senior Engineer position with all responsibilities assigned thereto. The successful candidate shall have the following responsibilities:
· Working knowledge of building codes and standard practices for the complete design and engineering of structural systems
· Working with senior engineers and architects for projects as they relate to deadlines for production, project management in collaboration with other project managers and staff.
· Development of structural design calculations, drawing and specifications, including coordination with Geotechnical, Architectural, and Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing sub-consultants.
- Share responsibility for all drawings production activities on the assigned project including but not limited to assumptions, pertinent Code research and provisions, design, drafting, specifications, construction administration, etc. with minimal supervision.
· Basic knowledge and experience with the structural design of concrete including precast, conventional, and post-tensioned cast-in-place, structural steel and masonry.
· Strong knowledge of reference standards as they apply to the design of foundations, superstructures, and related building components.
· Review of shop drawings, on-site review of construction progress, review of testing and inspection reports and development of field reports.
· Work under and collaborate with senior architectural and engineering staff, including project principals, senior project management staff and junior and mid-level staff on commercial building projects including but not limited to parking structures which are delivered as a prime and/or sub-consultant role.
Requirements:
· Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
· Minimum of ten (5) years of experience as an Engineer in commercial structures with demonstrated career progression required through establishment of an NCEES record required.
· Registered as a licensed P.E. in Illinois and be willing to become an S.E. in Illinois.
· Working knowledge of building codes, particularly ACI, AISC and ASCE reference standards, IBC building codes, and PCI & PTI Design Guidelines.
· Proficiency in MS Office Suite and working knowledge or familiarity with engineering software including, RISA 3D, ETABS, SP-SLAB, SP-Column, Retain-Pro, PT-Data & PT-Data + beams, girders.
· Proficiency in Revit and working knowledge in AutoCAD.
· Candidates should be capable of entering data into an engineering program and spreadsheets and manipulating it.
· Analyze technical data, review submittals and fill out shop drawing logs.
· Candidates should be able to express themselves clearly and concisely using standard business grammar, punctuation and vernacular.
- Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Candidates are expected to be punctual, self-initiating and conscientious. Candidates should be capable of working in an office environment with a business team approach and, on an as-needed basis; outside of the office at the project site for project conditions reviews and site visits.
