Overview
We are embarking on an exciting journey to establish an internal development team at DHS, aimed at crafting innovative customer experiences to support our diverse range of services and programs. As a data engineer and SQL developer, you will contribute to architecting a robust data pipeline that integrates our provider and consumer-facing applications with our transactional and analytical data warehouses.
In this position, you’ll work with third-party contractors and our internal team to integrate new applications with our data stores and help design resilient, production-grade data pipelines. As our internal development team expands, we’ll gradually transition towards developing more solutions in-house.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the data team, developers, product managers, and data scientists to address data challenges and contribute to impactful solutions.
- Communicate effectively with diverse audiences to understand data requirements and explain technical concepts.
- Implement best practices for service-oriented architecture and contribute to establishing quality standards.
- Assist in developing and maintaining data pipelines using common backend languages (preferably Python).
- Support the integration of RESTful APIs to facilitate data flows across various applications.
- Contribute to data modeling, database design, and data architecture initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has 2-4 years of experience in data engineering, including hands-on experience in building data pipelines using a common backend language (preferably Python).
- Demonstrates knowledge of data warehousing and modeling, with some experience working with Oracle Data Warehouse and other relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MSSQL.
- Possesses a good understanding of data modeling, database design, and data architecture principles.
- Is familiar with integrating or extending RESTful APIs to facilitate data flows across applications.
- Has working knowledge of cloud-native platforms like Kubernetes, AWS, or Azure, and understands the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Basic familiarity with the .NET Framework and WCF Services is a plus.
