Position Summary:Director, Health & Safety is accountable for anticipating, evaluating, and monitoring health and safety risks for the US and Canada. This role will drive a culture of safety, ensuring that all practices meet or exceed regulatory standards and align with our commitment to reducing incidents. Through strong partnership with People Business Partners, legal, and operations, this leader will focus on both proactive and post-incident strategies, aiming to achieve our goals of a safe, healthy, and engaged workforce.
Location:Toronto, ON or Miami, FL & will oversee North America health and safety programs for corporate offices & company owned restaurants.
Reports To: Sr. Director, Benefits
Role & Responsibilities: - Provides guidance, coaching and technical expertise at the site level to direct reports and site management to ensure management engagement and accountability in H&S and facilitate the execution of H&S initiatives. These involves leveraging resources, recognizing issues/potentials, assisting with evaluation and identification of controls, execution / follow up / problem solving, and a sense of urgency, as required;
- Ensures compliance with corporate policies and legislated requirements, including development of training plans;
- Provides a highly visible presence in all departments and leadership to team;
- Constantly promotes, monitors and evaluates safety programs and practices to make recommendations;
- Provides reports and statistical information to management;
- Analyzes safety data, risks, conduct research and audits that assists in developing 'best in class' annual safety plans and programs;
- Develops and implement strategies that create 'safety engagement' amongst employees and supervisors;
- Participates in Safety Committees, Worksite Audits and safety training;
- Acts as point of contact for Ministry of Labour, OSHA and other regulatory agencies;
- Functions as the central point of contact for serious incident reporting and investigation;
- Liaise with local regulators and other stakeholders to build sustainable, positive relationships and foster Company credibility;
- Manage Velocity EHS system enhancements and vendor relationship.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field;
- 10 years' experience in a progressively senior H&S role to include management and mentoring of team members;
- Diploma or Degree in a recognized Occupational Health & Safety program or an equivalent combination of experience and training;
- Possess Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation;
- Knowledge of applicable Provincial safety legislation/ regulations and Occupational Health and Safety standards under OSHA, WSIB, WCB and CSST;
- Experience conducting investigations related to safety events and near misses;
- Knowledge of Claims Management and applicable Workers' Compensation policies and procedures for both US and Canada;
- Experience in working with management and safety committees developing safety programs, conducting audits, training and implementing best practices;
- Experience in the food and/or manufacturing industry;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage teams at all levels.
- Proficiency in using data to track safety trends and inform continuous improvement efforts;
- Proficiency with Velocity EHS: workplace incident tracking system desired;
- Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
