Career Opportunity: Data Engineer

Position Summary: The focus of the Data Engineer is to maintain logistical and structural operations of the Workers Credit Union data delivery platform, focusing on connect-ability, scalability, and resilience. This position is responsible for streamlining how the Enterprise Analytics team connects, updates, and transforms data used for analytics. As the Workers Credit Union data warehouse and many other data sources continue to scale in size and complexity, it is this position’s function to ensure smooth transitions in the event of changes in information systems, data infrastructure, information storage processes, or in changes of analytics/reporting tools.
General Responsibilities:
- Will build and optimize logical data models and data pipelines for difficult & complex datasets:
- Design data model frameworks at varying levels of granularity that will help the Analytics team & the Business Domain leaders visualize the current data environment.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of our existing and continually increasing datasources in a way that is easily communicable and transparent.
- Responsible for the data pipeline and future-looking/strategic data modeling for the analytics platform's day to day operations and all associated documentation. Key areas of this include...
- Data Lineage: a description of which datasources that certain features belong to, where they were sourced from, and their last refreshed date.
- Data Association: a clear picture of which datasources, individual tables, or even which specific features are used across workbooks/dashboards within our data-delivery platform.
- Responsible for supporting the Data Scientist in ML & AI model development:
- Collaborative relationship with Data Scientist in cleaning & transforming datasets to be ML/AI model ready.
- Use of tools, SQL, APIs & other ETL methodologies to prepare large datasets for Machine Learning & AI applications.
- Responsible for ongoing efficiency & maintenance testing to ensure that data quality standards are met across the platform. Involved in the discovery, research and resolution phase of any issues that arise during these testing processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, information technology, a related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Three to five years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics, Reporting or related field. Financial industry experience preferred.
- Strong proficiency in SQL & relational databases required (Microsoft SQL Server)
- Proficiency with Python, R, or other scripting languages preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
