Position Specific Description
The Grid Transformation & Integration Department in the Power Delivery Business Unit is seeking a Principal Engineer to join their team. This job applies a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to the variety of aspects affecting the organization.
The selected candidate for this role will:
• Be responsible for setting Power System Protective Relays including generation, transmission and distribution systems;
• Review application of relays, engineering diagrams, equipment ratings, and protection philosophy documents;
• Perform necessary setting calculations to determine relay set points based on application of protection guidelines;
• Identify areas of conflict between actual system requirements and designed protective schemes and recommend corrective action;
• Program relay settings and logic in vendor specific relay software and prepare setting documents for Field Engineers;
• Perform fault calculations, plot time-current coordination curves, plot R-X Impedance Diagrams, verify appropriate scheme logic and assist in relay action analysis;
• Applies knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions;
• Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the organization and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of programs to improve the area;
• Works on programs of high complexity and scope;
• Able to design, plan and implement unique engineering solutions and standards for complex problems facing the organization;
• Able to develop standards and engineering guidelines that have significant impact on major company programs and provide innovative solutions;
• Performs tasks with minimum supervision and oversight.
