This role is crucial in safeguarding market integrity, reducing risk, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Maintain Surveillance Systems:
o Design and deploy tools for monitoring trading behavior.
o Ensure systems meet regulatory requirements (e.g., MAR, MiFID II, Dodd-Frank).
o Customize surveillance tools to fit the specific trading strategies and markets.
- Alert Monitoring and Analysis:
o Create rules and models that detect anomalies (e.g., spoofing, layering, insider trading).
o Optimize alert thresholds to reduce false positives and improve detection quality.
o Work with large datasets (trade data, order data, market data).
o Ensure data accuracy and availability for surveillance systems.
o Develop data pipelines to facilitate real-time analysis.
- System Automation and Optimization:
o Automate manual processes in trade surveillance to improve efficiency.
o Optimize existing systems for speed, scalability, and accuracy.
- Collaboration with Compliance and IT Teams:
o Work closely with compliance teams to understand regulatory needs and business risks.
o Collaborate with IT to ensure systems are robust, secure, and up-to-date.
- Investigation and Reporting:
o Analyze alerts and escalate potential violations to compliance.
o Document investigations and provide detailed reports.
- Stay Current with Regulations:
o Keep up-to-date with global financial regulations and trading laws.
o Ensure systems are updated in line with regulatory changes.
- Performance Monitoring and Testing:
o Monitor the performance of surveillance systems.
o Conduct regular testing and validation to ensure systems are effective.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming (Python, Java, SQL), data analysis, and handling large datasets.
- Knowledge of Financial Markets: Understanding of trading practices, products, and market regulations.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data and identify patterns.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Awareness of regulations like MiFID II, MAR, SEC rules, etc.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address issues in surveillance systems and improve them.
