As our first full-time Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in building our data infrastructure from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to lay the foundation for our data warehouse, integrations, queries, views, and features required for reports, dashboards, and data analysis. You will be leading the development of our data strategy while ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and usability across the company.
This role will work directly with senior leadership (SLT) and executive leadership (ELT) to support data-driven decision-making, proactively uncover insights, and identify opportunities for leveraging data to create business value. In the long run, this role could evolve into a key driver in determining how we can integrate AI and advanced analytics to further enhance our business operations. While initially a team of one, this role will shape the future of our data team.
Help Lead and Develop Our Data Strategy: Define and implement a long-term data strategy that aligns with business goals and objectives.
Build and Maintain Our Data Infrastructure: Architect and develop our data warehouse, set up integrations, and ensure efficient data flows.
Clean and Structure the Database: Organize, optimize, and maintain data integrity while ensuring scalability for future growth.
Develop Queries, Views, Pipelines, and Models: Create and optimize SQL queries, views, pipelines, and data models to support reporting and analysis.
Work with Senior Leadership (SLT & ELT): Collaborate directly with executives to extract, analyze, and present meaningful data insights.
Proactively Identify Insights & Opportunities: Scan and analyze data trends to uncover business opportunities and recommend strategic actions.
Implement Data Quality Governance & Monitoring: Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability through robust monitoring and error-handling processes.
Optimize Performance & Efficiency: Continuously improve data processing and query performance for scalability and speed.
Explore AI & Advanced Analytics: Identify opportunities to leverage AI and advanced data analytics to drive business value in the long term.

3+ years relevant experience in data engineering or related field
Motivated self-starter and problem-solver with a strong work ethic
Strong proficiency in SQL (Postgres/Snowflake preferred), including techniques like unions, window functions, and UDF/CTEs
Expertise in entity-relationship modeling and dimensional modeling for enabling data analyst reporting
Familiarity with automated ETL tools (Fivetran, Airbyte, Stitch) and data warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
Experience with data quality governance, monitoring, and error handling
Familiar with using project management tools for task tracking and collaboration
Proficiency with Snowflake-specific SQL functions and differences (e.g., QUALIFY, TIME_SLICE, ARRAY_AGG) and platform features (e.g., Snowpipe, dynamic tables, resource monitors).
Strong understanding of query optimization and EXPLAIN plans
Python and Jupyter Notebook experience
Proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Looker) and collaboration tools (dbt or Dataform)
Familiarity with MSSQL for interfacing with legacy data
Data-related background in a startup environment
You have excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical information into user-friendly language
You’ve got strong problem-solving aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
