IDD Aerospace is a subsidiary of Safran Electronics and Defense, a leader in the design and manufacture of human-to-machine interface solutions for the commercial and defense aerospace market. IDD specializes in producing high quality light plates, keyboards, and control panel assemblies for flight deck control systems.
We’re looking for a skilled and driven Systems Engineer to join the IDD Aerospace engineering team, part of Safran Electronics and Defense Avionics, USA. In this role, you’ll play a key part in designing and certifying avionics equipment for flight decks on commercial, business, and military aircraft. We need someone with experience working to aviation standards like DO-254, DO-178, and DO-160 to help ensure our products meet the highest safety and reliability standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Design, develop, and document airborne equipment, ensuring compliance with internal procedures, DO-254, and DO-178 standards.
· Define, capture, and manage customer requirements, deriving additional requirements based on system-level needs, documenting them systematically, and ensuring their traceability, validation, and verification throughout the development lifecycle to meet airborne equipment certification standards.
· Design and define product system and subsystem architectures to meet technical and certification standards.
· Create and oversee the development of DO-254 compliance artifacts to ensure hardware certification.
· Act as the technical lead and primary liaison during DO-254 Stage of Involvement (SOI) audits with certification authorities.
· Prepare, update, and maintain project documentation, including plans, requirements, designs, validation, verification, and certification records.
· Lead and actively participate in peer reviews of technical documents, ensuring action items are addressed and documented.
· Drive continuous process improvements within the systems engineering domain to enhance efficiency and product quality.
· Manage configuration control and traceability of requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
· Write test plans, perform, and oversee DO-160 qualification testing, addressing environmental considerations for airborne equipment.
· Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during development and testing phases.
· Ensure alignment with program schedules and budgets, maintaining high-quality engineering deliverables.
· Work closely with certification authorities and internal teams to achieve airworthiness approvals.
· Stay current with international airworthiness requirements and emerging product certification trends to ensure compliance and innovation.
· Uphold and exemplify the highest ethical standards, even in challenging situations.
Qualifications:
· Demonstrated expertise in system and electrical engineering, with comprehensive experience in full lifecycle design for military, commercial, or business avionics systems and components.
· Extensive knowledge of electrical and avionics system architecture, with expertise in aircraft installations and operations, human factors design, aircraft digital data buses and protocols, analog and digital system interfaces, and modern aircraft system design.
· Proven experience in creating requirements documents, design descriptions, and system verification cases and procedures to support system development and certification processes.
· Comprehensive understanding of industry airworthiness standards and regulations, including FARs, Regulatory Guidance, and assurance standards and methods such as ARP 4754A, with additional expertise in DO-254 and DO-178.
· Hands-on experience with DO-160 testing (Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment).
· Experience with industry certification processes, including Supplemental Type Certificates (STC), Type Certificates (TC), and Technical Standard Orders (TSO), is highly desirable.
· Proficiency in embedded systems design and testing, with familiarity in FPGA, ASIC, or microcontroller-based systems.
· Knowledge of systems engineering processes, including requirements management and traceability.
· Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
· Experience working with aerospace certification processes is highly preferred.
