Within Vestas Power Solutions (VPS), you'll find our department, Lubrication & MBA, as part of Aerodynamic & Mechanical.
The Powertrain Module within Vestas Power Solutions is committed to the comprehensive development of Vestas powertrains for both onshore and offshore wind turbines. This module comprises three distinct submodules: Lubrication & MBA (Main Bearing Arrangement), Gearbox, and Generator.
The Lubrication & MBA submodule holds responsibility and accountability for designing solutions encompassing the powertrain lubrication system, main bearings, and associated structural components.
The Lubrication & MBA submodule operates across four strategic hubs: Aarhus, Denmark; Porto, Portugal; Dortmund, Germany; and Chennai, India.
Responsibilities Your primary focus will be on designing and optimizing the components developed by our team, with tasks that vary in complexity. Here's an overview of what your typical workflow might involve:
- Develop functional area roadmaps for continuous improvements, drawing on proven experience. Collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders to clarify design requirements. Ensure support for relevant sub-module, module, and Vestas Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and initiatives
- Define and design interfaces to seamlessly integrate with other systems. Create comprehensive design specifications and requirements, starting from top-level specifications down to the building block level. Incorporate a value chain perspective into the design functionality
- Ensure the performance and reliability of designs, including estimating their lifetime based on data. Create and maintain thorough documentation for designs
- Assess and manage risks and safety associated with the design
- Collaborate with experts from various engineering disciplines, such as main bearings, loads, and control
- Coordinate technical functional reviews and drive the digitalization path within the functional domain
- Monitor component performance in production (Non-Conformance Reports) and service (Corrective Incident Reports, Lifecycle Performance Feedback), along with other maintenance tasks
Qualifications - Masters or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field. Demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Prior experience in wind turbine design and third-party certification (beneficial)
- Experience in designing and developing dynamic mechanical systems
- Proficiency in conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools like Ansys. Experience in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (D-FMEA) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (P-FMEA)
- Ability to code proficiently with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB
- A solid understanding of the static and dynamic behavior of mechanical casting structures
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering principles and experience in manufacturing welded or bolted solutions, with proficiency in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods such as UT, VT, and MT (beneficial)
- Proficiency in modular product development and digital engineering
Competencies - Employ a structured and pragmatic approach to daily tasks, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness. Display meticulous attention to detail when utilizing software tools and handling workflow processes
- Demonstrate the ability to devise innovative solutions for analysis challenges, including the introduction of new tools and processes. Be familiar with various manufacturing methods, understanding their implications on design and production processes
- Cultivate a resourceful perspective when approaching complex engineering issues, seeking fresh perspectives to solve problems
- Show motivation and a clear sense of responsibility towards tasks and projects. Demonstrate an ability to maintain high productivity autonomously with limited supervision and collaborate effectively with others when faced with stringent deadlines
- Utilize technical experience to provide guidance and mentorship to team members
- Have a background in project management or possess business education/experience in large corporate organizations
- Exhibit good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, enabling effective engagement with stakeholders

Additional information Our preferred work location for this role will be either Aarhus, Denmark or Porto, Portugal.
