The description of Functions and Duties below represents an entry-level applicant. Those applying with greater experience will be tasked to work with progressively greater initiative, industry knowledge, and less oversight.
SUMMARY
Prepare and maintain as directed, design studies, drawings and engineering calculations under supervision. Communicate with other departments and provide them with technical assistance or information when needed. Reports to Supervisor or Senior Supervisor. Takes an active role in problem resolution teams. Will interface with other Engineering groups, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required. Will be informed of priorities and allowed to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks within guidelines provided by the Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Perform Design analysis and support calculations for engineering product development
Supports the development of ship designs and/or underlying calculations and documentation in given subject area
Supports research into internal (e.g. production, planning) and external customers (e.g. ABS, Navy, USCG) issues and interpretations as assigned
Demonstrates oral and written communication skills, including through e-mail, drafting presentations, reports, and other correspondence for review by more senior personnel. Participates in internal working groups, including documenting discussions, decisions, and outcomes
Actively contributes to the department’s team environment with a consistently positive attitude
Including a willingness and ability to train others as directed
Demonstrates a good attitude, continuous improvement mindset, and initiative, accountability, and commitment
Demonstrates professional and business skill aptitude
Demonstrates engineering ability and basic knowledge and a professional career aptitude
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Entry level to 2 years’ experience in relevant marine field Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Effective decision maker requiring some guidance on occasions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires ability to work in an office environment, go aboard ship during construction, climb ladders, work throughout yard as required, and take part in Sea Trials when required. Work will be confined to a clean office environment in general but will require participation in dusty, dirty areas at times. Employees are paid for formally structured and scheduled overtime, but are not paid for casual overtime. Employees may be rotated to other departments for professional development.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Completes all tasks within schedule, budget, and quality commitments.
PAY SCALE
Engineer I: $74,300 - $96,100
Engineer II: $81,500 - $114,500
Engineer III: $88,100 - $124,700
Senior Engineer: $99,200 - $145,000
Engineering Specialist: $119,100 - $162,000
Senior Engineering Specialist: $134,200 - $185,800
This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
