Design Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. Product Engineering - Underground Lateral is responsible for S&C's underground lateral products including EdgeRestore® Underground Distribution Restoration System. In this position you will report to the Assistant Manager - Product Engineering in the Underground Lateral group. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide engineering support to manufacturing and to external customers regarding the manufacture and design of the product. The position requires a basic understanding and application of both electrical power and mechanical engineering principles.
Key Responsibilities:• Contribute to major development projects under the technical guidance of senior engineers.
• Modify existing designs or develop new designs of components and subcomponents, under the direction of senior engineering personnel, either alone or collaborating with a team of engineers and designers.
• Solve design and manufacturing related problems through use of fundamental engineering calculations and theory.
• Establish manufacturing/assembly methods to achieve cost-effective, world class manufacturing quality.
• Work with development teams to instill best practices to design for both manufacture and assembly.
• Coordinate and perform product testing under guidance and supervision.
• Prepare reports and presentations for customers in a manner which enhances S&C's engineering reputation.
• Interact with customers on the phone or in the field to resolve design, manufacturing, or application related problems.
• Perform engineering support functions for manufacturing.
• Conduct studies and make analysis, interpretations, and conclusions under guidance and supervision.
What you'll Need To Succeed:• BS degree in mechanical engineering.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals and theory with an emphasis on power engineering.
• Experience in the design and development of products utilizing castings, stampings, corrosion resistant coatings, and environmental seals.
• Experience with manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, the application of GD&T, and FMEAs
• Desire to work hands-on in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Experience with CAD/CAM and FEA software. Experience with SolidEdge and ANSYS preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build and grow professional relationships.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects and tasks.
