The Accounting Manager oversees the preparation and review of various financial and regulatory reports. This individual supervises assigned personnel and performs accounting duties for Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, and support staff. Key responsibilities include performing reconciliations and reporting, including the capital budget and general ledger.
Responsibilities- Oversee the preparation and review of assigned monthly financial reports for senior management and the Board of Directors
- Manage the regulatory reporting for NCUA (quarterly "call" reports) and the Federal Reserve Bank (weekly FR2900 report)
- Maintain the general ledger system
- Audit the general ledger to ensure all entries are accurate
- Supervise the accounts payable function by ensuring accurate and prompt payments to vendors and employee reimbursements
- Verify compliance with company policy and procedures
- Review and oversee annual tangible tax and 1099 reporting process
- Supervise the fixed asset function
- Ensure the proper setup of assets, disposals, and adjustments
- Coordinate the preparation of the capital budget
- Oversee the preparation and review of CUSO financial statements, reports, and general ledger reconciliations
- Coordinate schedules, activities, and other information required for external or internal auditors and NCUA examiners
- Prepare various cost analyses and projections
- Develop and implement ad-hoc reports
- Review and recommend new methods or procedures to make daily operations more efficient
- Interpret and implement management policies, utilizing short-term planning, scheduling, and coordinating for the department
- Assist senior management with developing and implementing long-term and short-term business objectives
- Develop, monitor, and maintain the department budget in cooperation with senior management
- Assist senior management with regulatory compliance to ensure the department is in accordance with applicable laws and government regulations
- Delegate responsibilities to staff and monitor progress
- Set goals and objectives for team members
- Guide staff in developing action plans to achieve operational results
- Hire, train, coach, appraise, and reward staff, acknowledge staff feedback or concerns
- Oversee the advancement or disciplinary matters of staff
- Cultivate a strong team by building trust among the team members
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues
- Attend educational events such as conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, and meetings to increase professional knowledge
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
- 7+ years of accounting experience preferably with a financial institution
- Experience supervising and leading a team
- Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
- Ability to comprehensibly communicate policies, practices, and procedures to direct reports and stakeholders
