As an Engineer I at Watlow, you will be part of a team that engineers systems comprising of Watlow’s range of products in industries that include Glass, Heat Treat, Life Science, Food & Beverage, Plastics & Water. This role introduces you to process control, application engineering, control panel design and allows you to work closely with our global clientele.
Completes assigned work packages with supervision from a more senior Engineer and may work independently on projects of limited complexity and scope. Is accountable for developing technical capabilities.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- May support the more senior Engineers during the project kick off and design phase by gathering and reviewing customer documentation and requirements for use in creating the Functional Design Specification (FDS) and clarifying the scope of the project.
- Executes assigned work packages of limited technical complexity and scope while complying with the standards/guidelines defined in the FDS and with oversight from senior engineer(s) involved in the project.
- Upon completion of assigned work packages, conducts a thorough QA review of own work prior to configuration and on-site testing, and works closely with more senior Engineers to revise/modify work packages as needed.
- May participate in customer acceptance and application testing, including factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) under the supervision of a more senior Engineer, and may assist in any necessary remedy corrections.
- May assist with basic on-site engineering, including: start-up and application commissioning and hardware assembly.
- Assists in developing all necessary documentation, including application specifications and operations/training manuals, as required by the contract.
- When independently executing a project of limited technical complexity, defines and documents the FDS, manages sub-contractor activity (e.g., panel design/development), completes acceptance testing activities, and leads all application configuration, start-up, and commissioning, while overseeing the project schedule and maintaining correspondence with the customer.
- Complies with development standards and technical engineering processes, as well as customer-defined and industry Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations. Raises issues of noncompliance to customer and Watlow management, when necessary.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Achieves familiarity and working knowledge to provide back-up capability in support of all systems products
- Answers or provides back-up to telephone help desk requests and electronic inquiries from customers regarding specific company products and applications.
- Provides secondary technical support to customers, field engineers, and sales channels on configuration, operation, maintenance, programming, and troubleshooting of specific Eurotherm non-system and systems products and applications.
- Provides instrument and system level software and communications support to customers. Provides recommendations, diagnoses and troubleshoots customer applications remotely or on site.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or two-year degree and related experience, or equivalent experience (5-8 years)
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other Engineering field or equivalent work experience directly applicable to industrial controls or project engineering
- Fully familiar with computer operation, operating systems, office software, networks.
- Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with control instrumentation.
- Familiarity with configuration and programming of micro based instrumentation preferred.
- Knowledgeable in use of AutoCAD drawing package preferred.
- Self-motivator with good communications skills
