Position Summary
Purpose
The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct experiments and tests and evaluate data to assist the Welding Engineer in development and application of new and improved welding equipment, welding techniques, and welding procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
Functions
ESSENTIAL
• Conduct welding development and welding procedure qualification tests under the direction of the Welding Engineer.
• Conduct experiments to develop application of new equipment or improved techniques and practices.
• Operate basic metallographic equipment, cut-off saw, specimen mounting equipment, microscope, hardness testing, photographic equipment, and corrosion testing.
• Analyze and determine proper weld sequence for cycle time and part dimensional improvements to reduce cycle time and ensure part consistency.
• Using basic computer skills, access PLM system to retrieve Engineering drawings and documentation.
ADDITIONAL
• Assist the Welding Engineer in data collection for continuous improvement.
• Assist in departmental measurable goals relating to customer concerns, cost of quality, cost savings, safety, and on-time delivery.
• Provide assistance in the design, build, installation, and start up of weld cells/fixtures.
• Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• This position has NO supervisory responsibilities.
Reporting Relationship
• Reports to Advanced Manufacturing Engineer Supervisor
Qualifications
REQUIRED
• Experience in operating SAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW (manual and orbital) welding equipment
• sufficient skill in GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW to pass AWS/ASME performance qualification
• Knowledge of Word, Excel, and email systems
DESIRED
• Associate degree in Welding Technology
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar business management software and document management software
Working Conditions
This position is considered SHOP/INDOOR which is characterized as follows.
• Primarily indoors during the day and occasionally at night.
• Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
• When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%
• Noise is over 85 decibels.
• Light is intense/glare.
• Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
• Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
