The Senior Accountant will support the financial closing process and financial operations & management control, ensuring monthly and annual closings in accordance with group and company policies and procedures. He/she will report directly to the Chief Accountant and will work closely with the Financial Controllers, other members of the finance team and may interact with operations and other support functions at Veolia.
Main responsibilities:
- Review and validate the accounting and reporting tasks that will be carried out by the accountants, including:
- ledgers and related records in accordance with standard accounting practices, policies and procedures
- bank reconciliations
- account reconciliations and documentation for audit purposes
- payroll accounting
- monthly tax returns (TPS, TVQ, TVH)
- Prepare monthly reports in the group consolidation tool
- Interact daily with financial controllers and provide explanations of variances and specific reports to their teams
- Respond to and manage audit requests in a timely manner, interface with external auditors and prepare financial annexes
- Ensure compliance with internal control policies and procedures, propose improvements where necessary and conduct periodic reviews, self-assessments and audits to ensure the integrity of financial data
- Provide guidance to other team members (as appropriate), support problem solving and set expectations
- Other tasks as assigned
- Requirements:
- University degree in accounting/finance or related discipline
- CPA title or in the process of obtaining it (asset)
- 5+ years of experience in accounting and min. 2 years in a similar position
- Bilingual (French and English) - Functional level of English required, since many communications will be made with our other places of business across Canada, as well as with English-speaking clients.
- In-depth technical knowledge of accounting standards and procedures (GAAP and IFRS) with proficiency in Excel spreadsheets
- Good team spirit
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to manage time and work under tight deadlines
- Forte orientation client
- Computer literate, excellent skills in using accounting software
Work Environment:
Permanent, full-time position with work hours Monday through Friday, daytime.
