Company Profile
Oceaneering is a global provider of engineered services and products, primarily to the offshore energy industry. We develop products and services for use throughout the lifecycle of an offshore oilfield, from drilling to decommissioning. We operate the world's premier fleet of work class ROVs. Additionally, we are a leader in offshore oilfield maintenance services, umbilicals, subsea hardware, and tooling. We also use applied technology expertise to serve the defense, entertainment, material handling, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries.
Position Summary
Purpose
Welding materials and parts in the Manufacturing area, using gas or electric equipment, according to the specifications received and the procedures established by Oceaneering.
Duties & Responsibilities
Functions
Preparatory Work for Welding
• Cut, contour and bevel materials in structural shapes and of different dimensions, as specified by plans, diagrams, work orders and models, using the appropriate tools.
• Mark on the parts the appropriate job number and other identification marks, as needed.
• Prepares all surfaces of the material to be welded, ensuring that there are no loose or thick scales, slag, rust, moisture, grease or foreign substances.
• Prepare the parts to be welded, applying the appropriate treatment, in order to obtain a perfect welding.
• Selects the materials, machines, tools and auxiliary means to be used depending on the work to be done.
• It fixes, holds, adheres, bends with heat, grinds or bolts the parts to achieve the necessary configurations and positions for welding the components.
• Selects and installs torches, filling, and flow rods, according to the specifications of the welding chart or types and thicknesses of metals.
Execution of Welding Activities
• Interprets the drawings and other technical specifications, chooses the electrodes, fixes them and regulates the position, according to the nature of the welding to be performed.
• Preheat the parts before welding or bending, using torches or heating ovens.
• It connects the parts, using a welding station and manually activating a device that causes the addition metal (electrode) to fuse by means of an electric arc or another welding system.
• Place the addition metal rod in the respective clamp.
• Connect, using electrical cables, clamps, or suitable pliers, the output terminals of the transformer, generator, or rectifier, to the input terminals of the transformer, generator, or rectifier, to the network output terminals, establishing the electrical supply.
• Prime the arc by putting the electrode in contact with the part and moving it away a little, to form the electric arc.
• Welds components in flat, vertical, or suspended positions.
• Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, alloys and others.
• Guides and directs direct flames or electrodes or through parts to straighten, bend and / or melt the metal.
• Weld parts by melting, taking care to avoid internal stresses in the material and warping in the parts.
• Eliminates, with changes in the earthing position, the arc blowing phenomenon and regulates the current according to needs.
Qualifications
Final Welding Works
• Chips or grinds excess weld, slag or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable mills or arc cutting equipment.
• Removes rough stains on parts, using portable mills or scrapers.
• Protruding or curved mesh in the pieces.
• Clean or degrease parts using steel brushes, portable mills or chemical baths.
Welding Control
• Monotonize fitting, flaring, and welding processes, avoiding overheating of the parts or warping, shrinkage, distortion, or expansion of the material.
Safety and Hygiene Management
• Inspect the tools and equipment used.
• Complies with the safety and hygiene conditions inherent to the development of the work.
• Keeps your superior informed about ongoing activities and anomalies found.
• Participates in workplace safety meetings.
• Uses fire suppression methods in emergency situations.
Cleaning and Tidying Activities
• Participates in the cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment used by him, using the appropriate products.
• Participates in cleaning, tidying, and cleaning your workplace.
Reporting and Registration
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports, as needed.
• Fill in the records related to the welding activity.
