We are seeking a Documentation Manager who will be a contributing writer as well as leading a small team. Our team provides documentation for a broad technical audience including developers, data scientists, and system administrators. This manager will support an existing team tasked with building high-quality documentation in the autonomous vehicle space and elsewhere. We’re looking for someone who can quickly form good working relationships with developers and work collaboratively to produce excellent documentation that simplifies, explains, and empowers our users!
This role will be responsible for leading the team, hiring new team members and supporting their growth, and also contributing as a writer on an AV-related product. You'll work with product and engineering leadership to prioritize, develop content strategy, and share frequent updates on what's happening with the team and space. You will be responsible for ensuring positive relationships and partnerships, steady growth, and measurable impact!
What you'll be doing:
Leading a high-performing team to build engaging and effective documentation for developers
Partnering with Engineering and cross-functional leadership teams to prioritise and strategize as well as sharing regular updates on documentation initiatives
Handling expectations of all interested parties: define clear schedules with key deliverables and milestone dates, identify and communicate risks and adjustments to the overall documentation deliverables
Developing and implementing key performance indicators to supervise progress to key metrics and goals.
Writing documentation about new software features and updating existing documents that include programming guides and application programming interface (API) references
Researching, prioritising and handling documentation projects
Gathering, editing, and publishing subject-specific knowledge from domain experts and developers
Supporting development teams and delivering high-quality technical content within a fast-paced software release schedule and driving the technical review process
What we need to see:
Experience working as a technical writer on different types of documentation, particularly API references, developer guides, and user manuals
5+ years of experience writing user documentation
2+ years of experience leading a team
Proficiency in technical documentation across multiple programming languages based on an understanding of coding and object-oriented design principles
Ability to run sophisticated software using Linux and Docker
The flexibility to find whatever method works best to get close to domain experts and learn what they know
Authoring experience with the “docs as code” approach, ideally using Sphinx and reStructuredText or Markdown
Solid understanding of source control tools (such as Perforce and GitHub) and experience using issue trackers such as JIRA to supervise project tasks
BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
Experience writing code
Understanding of Deep Learning, neural networks, software frameworks for machine intelligence and system virtualization.
A propensity for thinking like a developer and writing the documentation they need

The base salary range is 164,000 USD - 310,500 USD. Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and the pay of employees in similar positions.
